  • Born 1933 in Albemarle, NC
  • Graduated Albemarle High School in 1951
  • Attended UNC Chapel Hill from 1952-1953
  • Served in the US Army from 1953-1955
  • Married Peggy McCanless in 1955
  • Graduated from Pfeiffer University in 1958 with a BS degree in Business Administration
  • Employed by Owens-Illinois Paper Products Division in Salisbury, NC, an international company headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, in 1958
  • Hired by Stanley Tool Works, New Britain, Conn in 1964 to head the Personnel Department for a new plant in New Bern, NC
  • Recognized the need for new homes, created Efird Company and transitioned to building homes in 1965
  • Completed a major project, River Bend Plantation, in 1986, a planned unit development (PUD) on a 1,200-acre riverfront farm
  • Relocated to Wilmington, NC with wife, Peggy, at the age of 53 to embark on the next stage of life
  • Spent the last 38 years in NC commercial real estate in one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation
  • At age 91, holds active NC Real Estate License and is a Partner with SVN | Efird Commercial Real Estate
